Monday morning kicked off with a ride out to Lagoon Creek—a truly impressive site that offers a side-by-side look at both current power generation technology and the future of grid infrastructure. While referred to as a single site, Lagoon Creek is technically two distinct generating facilities situated on one massive reservation: a Combined-Cycle natural gas plant and a simple-cycle Combustion Turbine plant.

Together, this layout makes Lagoon Creek the absolute largest gas-powered generating facility in our entire generation fleet.

Lagoon Creek holds a very special place in our corporate engineering history. It represented the very first brand-new power generation source built directly by our enterprise since the completion of the Kemper facility back in 2002. Furthermore, it holds the historic distinction of being the very first combined-cycle natural gas facility ever constructed in the entire state of Tennessee. Fleet Impact: As the largest gas-powered facility in our system, Lagoon Creek provides massive baseload stability alongside rapid-response peaking flexibility, bridging the gap between legacy infrastructure and modern clean-energy transition goals. While the facility itself is a masterpiece of modern industrial engineering, the ride leaving Lagoon Creek was an adventure of a different kind. The GPS route pulled me deep out into the middle of nowhere on narrow, winding rural backroads that looked like they were seldom traveled by cars, let alone motorcycles.With loose gravel in the corners, unpredictable road surfaces, and zero room for error, I held my breath, stayed completely focused, and took extra caution to make sure I kept the bike safely on two wheels!
