Norris Dam.

The sign was dirty, but the dam was not. Riding in, it was the 4^th site and 3^rd dam of the day so I was starting to get a little bit in the ‘seen one <> seen them all’ mindset. However the visitors center changed my mood immediately. It was open, clean and there were people attending! Norris, it turns out, is a very welcoming dam.

There are a few things I got accustomed to doing at each dam by now, visit the pump house, check out the wires, scope out whatever condition the welcoming center is in and then see about views. Norris checked off all of these boxes. The pump house and transformers/ wires at the base, we talked about the welcoming center, I spent a bit of time in there.

Then came the views. Norris is another ride over dam and of course I couldn’t resist! So over I went and then up the other side to some breathtaking views.

Norris will stick in my mind for both the visitor’s center and the views. Top notch, both!

A little after the ride info I found out. Norris Dam supplied all the power for the Y-12 and K-25 plants which were part of the Manhattan project!
