South Holston Dam to me was just a very picturesque site.

Riding in I first saw a cool little dam I couldn’t figure out what exactly it was, it wasn’t a dam dam, it was more like a lock and dam ridge like found on the green river in Kentucky but different. Well come to find out it’s called a weir dam and what I drove past was the last part of it. It is used to add oxygen to the water post South Holston Dam. And boy does it make for good fishing. [ ](/assets/blog-images/IMG_1839.JPEG_One of the key features of South Holston Dam is that it pulls the water from the bottom of the reservoir and not the top or middle. This makes the water in the South Holston River incredibly cold even in the summer.

The dam itself, riding up to it, coming around the corner it’s impressive. A large wall of rocks. And the closer you get the smaller you feel. Keep riding and I found it’s yet another TVA dam you can ride across so of course I did!
